This case study focuses on redesigning the user interface for two core screens in Demonologist: Main Menu, and Map Selection. The goal is to create a visually striking and immersive UI that enhances the player experience by effectively conveying the game's terrifying atmosphere.
The screen has poor hierarchy, unclear tool info, low contrast text, and an unbalanced layout, with the “Start” button not standing out as the main action.
This redesigned game menu improves upon the original by enhancing readability, organization, and visual clarity while maintaining the atmosphere of Demonologist. The interface now features better text contrast, improved alignment, and clearer feedback for players. Below are the key improvements made:
Despite its successful atmospheric design the map is hard to use. Fancy fonts, low contrast, and extra decorations make it tricky to read, while the uneven layout makes finding places slower and more confusing.
The redesign improves clarity and immersion by using an in-game background, organizing the tool list into a clear table, and adding arrow icons for easier navigation. Difficulty selection is simplified with arrows, while key stats like level and currency are neatly placed at the top. Buttons are more visible and spaced, making the interface cleaner and more user-friendly.
The redesign greatly improves usability, clarity, and immersion. Menus now feature atmospheric backgrounds and organized layouts, making information easier to scan. Interactive elements like difficulty and map selection are more intuitive with clear buttons and previews. The map screen shifts from flat art to a vibrant, 3D-style layout with connected paths and location highlights, blending functionality with thematic depth for a smoother, more engaging experience.
The redesign uses detailed in-game backgrounds, creating a stronger atmosphere and thematic connection.
The current pages use mostly static or plain backgrounds, which feel less engaging.
